New UK customs regulations on imported goods comes into effect from 1st October 2022…

We cannot stress strongly enough how important it is that your business checks, and acts now!  If you are a UK business or individual that imports anything, or receives any imported goods, you will need to register for the new customs system that goes live on the 1st October

A few quick & easy online steps could save you a whole truck load of delays and headaches! 

All UK businesses will need to register for the Customs Declaration Service otherwise known as CDS

Below you can find a step-by-step guide to help in the process of registering for CDS, which will ensure that EBISS UK (or anyone else) will be able to continue to import anything coming to you.
  
Step 1 – Register for a Government Gateway account
You will need to register for a Government Gateway account to access your personal or business tax account if you don’t already have one. You need to use this account to access the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).

Step 2 – Ensure you have an EORI number
If you don’t have EORI number, you can apply for an EORI number here..  You must have an EORI number to register for CDS.
 
Step 3 – Register for the Customs Declaration Service (CDS)
You can register for the Customs Declaration Service here.
This can take up to 5 working days. You will need:

  • Your Government Gateway user ID and password
  • GB EORI number
  • Unique Tax Reference (UTR) number
  • Address of your business
  • Your National Insurance number (if you’re an individual or sole trader)
  • The date you started your business

Paying VAT and Duty
We can continue to pay your import Duty & VAT on your behalf and then invoicing this back to you, nothing will change to this method.

These changes are phase 1 of the new system being implemented by the UK Customs & Excise.  Phase 2, covering the Export of goods from the UK, will come into effect on the 1st April 2023.
