This year we are celebrating our 6th year as the Official Shipping and Packing Partner for the London Art Fair at The Business Design Centre in London. 6 wonderful years of supporting this outstanding contemporary art showcase, the show organisers, galleries, artists, art buyers and collectors.
About the London Art Fair
The London Art Fair (LAF) is an annual art fair held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. The Galleries sector is the core of the London Art Fair, where selected galleries present the very finest in Modern and international contemporary art from the early 20th century to today. Alongside over 125 participating galleries in the main fair, there are two curated sections focusing on younger galleries and new work with art projects and contemporary photography with Photo50.
What we do
In addition to providing the advance warehouse facilities and shipping artworks to the fair, for the whole duration of the event, we also operate a complimentary art packing service which is available for all galleries and artists to make use of when they sell pieces that their buyer would like to take away with them on the day. This soft wrapping service is funded solely by us and we see it as a great way of reaching out to galleries and artists to demonstrate our friendly yet thoroughly professional art packing and shipping services.
As you can imagine, thanks to the vast array of different art types, mediums, materials and styles on display, this is not without its challenges. We just never know what will be coming through our door!
Whilst most of the items we see are painting, prints or framed photography there are also many sculptural items we have the pleasure of packing, which require a much more ‘personalised’ approach to packing them safely, as they are often far from uniform in shape.
All hands on deck!
Here’s a great example that was brought to us on Day 2 of the fair this year. This stunning bronze sculpture of a Long Oar Boat was made by the artist John Behan and sold via the Beaux Arts Bath Gallery, exhibiting at the fair. At over 50cm long and nearly the same in height, this is not a conventional shape!
In order to protect the 22 oars protruding at the top and bottom of the sculpture a very unique approach was needed – so our team leapt into action. With skilled tissue, cardboard and tape solutions they crafted their own masterpiece of protective packaging to ensure this beautiful barge reached its new home safe, secure and in perfect condition.
This was just one of the many hundreds of artworks packed over the course of the 6 day fair, in addition to the additional delivery and shipping services we offer during the fair – including hand-delivering sold pieces using our bespoke vehicles with the London area, plus transit packing and courier shipping to buyers and collectors.
It’s a very busy show, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love being involved and we hope that all the organisers, galleries and artists that used us in any capacity were delighted by our services.
